FIVE KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT DEPORTATION IN THE USA: 1. Deportation is the process of removing a foreign national from the United States. 2. Deportation can be ordered for a variety of reasons, including violating the terms of your visa, committing a crime, or being a public safety threat. 3. You may be barred from returning to the U.S. for a period of time. 4. If you are facing deportation, you have the right to a hearing before an immigration judge. 5. You can be placed into ICE custody for deportation/removal proceedings even if you have paid a bond on a criminal charge. 🚨 Breaking Down Trump’s Executive Orders on Immigration 🚨 On his first day in office, President Trump signed a series of executive orders impacting U.S. immigration policies. Here’s what you need to know: ✅ Asylum Ban: New restrictions on asylum seekers, especially those arriving for the first time at the southern border. Birthright citizenship for children of undocumented immigrants was also targeted. ✅ Curbing Legal Immigration: Trump ended programs like the CBP One app (canceling 30,000 asylum appointments) and humanitarian parole programs for certain nationalities. ✅ Suspended Refugee Admissions: Halted refugee entry until deemed aligned with U.S. interests. ✅ National Emergency at the Border: Migrant crossings declared a national emergency, re-routing funds for border wall construction. ✅ “Remain in Mexico” Policy: Attempt to reinstate the policy requiring asylum seekers to stay in Mexico while their cases are processed. ✅ Expansion of Deportation: Fast-tracked deportations for individuals with less than 2 years in the U.S. ✅ ICE Deportation Restrictions Lifted: Revoked limitations on deportations in sensitive locations like schools and healthcare centers. These changes signal a major shift in immigration policy with significant implications. Have questions about how these may impact you? FIVE KEY THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT I-601 WAIVER IN THE USA 1. An I-601 waiver is a request to the U.S government to waive certain grounds of inadmissibility. 2. Reasons someone may need an I-601 waiver include criminal convictions, health conditions, and prior removal from the U.S. 3. To qualify for an I-601 waiver, you must show, in most cases, that a qualifying family member would suffer extreme hardships if you were not allowed to enter the U.S. 4. It typically takes several months to process a waiver, and there is no guarantee that the waiver will be approved. 5. The I-601 waiver is not to be confused with the I-601A waiver. On Day 1 of his administration, President Donald Trump launched an aggressive series of executive actions. The list is long, but here are some major points. He has repealed many of former President Joe Biden’s policies, initiated a crackdown on immigration, withdrawn the U.S. from the Paris Climate Accords, and taken steps to keep TikTok operational in the U.S. Trump also pardoned around 1,500 individuals involved in the January 6, 2021, Capitol attack. But there’s more. Here’s a quick breakdown of some of the executive orders: - Ending federal cases against “political opponents” of the Biden administration, mainly targeting Trump supporters. - Signing a memorandum directing federal agencies to combat consumer inflation, aiming to reduce oil and natural gas production regulations, particularly in Alaska. - Planning to impose 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico starting February 1 while remaining vague about tariffs on Chinese imports. - Pausing Congress’ TikTok ban for 75 days to find a U.S. buyer for the platform. Trump is withdrawing the U.S. from the World Health Organization and reviewing foreign aid spending as part of his “America First” policy. Symbolically, he plans to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and revert Denali back to Mount McKinley. He has reversed Biden’s immigration policies, declaring all undocumented individuals a priority for deportation, and has declared a national emergency at the U.S.-Mexico border. He’s attempting to end birthright citizenship, though this may face legal challenges. Trump has temporarily suspended the U.S. Refugee Admission Program and plans to revive a policy requiring asylum seekers to wait in Mexico. Additionally, he has halted federal hiring except for military positions and frozen new federal regulations. Finally, Trump is rolling back protections for transgender individuals and ending diversity, equity, and inclusion programs within the federal government, defining sex solely based on biological characteristics.
